John Benton (born June 23, 1969) is an American curler from St. Michael, Minnesota. He started curling in 1975 and made his first U.S. Junior National Championships in 1987. In 1998 he qualified for his first Olympic Trials where he was placed fifth. In 2009 he was successful in his third Olympic Trials, which earned the right to compete at the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games. He qualified as the lead for John Shuster's rink. His other teammates are Jason Smith and Jeff Isaacson. Chris Plys joined the team as alternate after the 2010 Olympic Trials. In April 2009 he participated in the Men's World Curling Championships. His team placed fifth with a 7–4 record. In 2010 he left the team to form his own team. Benton was hired by NBC Sports to work as a curling analyst during the 2014 Winter Olympics. He is a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity's Beta Pi chapter at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities campus. ==Teams==
